In this hands-on workshop, we will guide you step by step through the entire process of assembling a djembe drum from scratch to final tuning. That means we’ll build the drum together-from the raw materials to a beautifully finished instrument with powerful sound. Whether you’re a beginner or simply passionate about traditional percussion, this experience will teach you the full art of drum-making and no experience required.

Before starting your personal djembe repair learning workshop and making sure it’s done just as you wish, please follow these steps:

  1. 📩 Contact us: Click on the “Contact Us” or “WhatsApp” button. Send us a photo of the elements you have (wooden shell, goat skin, rope, iron rings, etc.).
  2. 🥁 Choose the location:
    • Either you suggest a place – a pickup fee will apply (between €10 and €20 depending on the location)
    • Or we suggest a place – and you bring all the parts with you.
  3. 💬 Receive your quote: After evaluation, we’ll send you a detailed invoice. Important: the learning workshop will only begin after payment.
  4. ⏳ Repair timeline: Once payment is received, the learning session will last one dry day (no rain). On the second day, your djembe will be ready-fully assembled with a vibrant, metallic sound.

🪘 Learn how to repair or assemble a djembe – A hands-on workshop

This workshop is a unique “learning by doing” experience where we guide you through the full process of repairing or assembling a djembe drum together with you.

Whether you have an old djembe with a broken skin or you simply own the raw materials to assemble a djembe, we will show you how to bring your drum back to life – step by step.

👣 What you’ll learn

➡️ If you’re repairing an old djembe:

  • Remove the old ropes and torn skin
  • Clean and polish the wooden shell
  • Replace the ropes and create knots
  • Prepare a new goat skin, weave it around a metal ring
  • Mount the new skin on the cleaned shell
  • Let it dry naturally
  • Tighten the rope (weaving and pulling techniques)
  • Tune the drum for a bright, metallic sound

➡️ If you’re assembling a new djembe (starting from a shell and from the scratch):

  • Rope knotting and structure building
  • Prepare and install the goat skin
  • Weave and tighten the rope
  • Tune the drum for optimal sound

⏱️ Duration:

Around 5 hours total, completed within one dry day. The drum is ready by the next day.
